Camels have always been very important in the lives of the Emiratis. The camels in the UAE are one-humped camels called dromedaries. They are domesticated animals which provide milk, meat and hair for their owners. Their dung was also burned to provide heat. They were also given as a dowry for Bedu (Bedouin) brides when they were getting married. They used to bring people and goods from place to place so they were nicknamed the ships of the desert. Camels can live in hot, dry climates because they do not need much water. For that reason they are ideal for countries such as the UAE.
