Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday
The Shrove Tuesday's celebrations are the last until Easter. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. The name Ash Wednesday came from the ashes which are placed on the heads of people when they go to mass. The ashes are made from the palm branches which were blessed on Palm Sunday the previous year. Pussy Willows are also displayed in the home. |
Lent
Lent is 40 days long to represent what Jesus went through in the desert. During lent people give up things, fast, go to confession, pray and visit the specially decorated churches.
