Kotoubia Mosque
In Morocco it is usual to see three balls on top of the minaret. However, there are four golden balls on top of the Kotoubia Mosque. It is said that a rich woman lived in Marrakesh long ago. During Ramadan she got really hungry and she ate a meal. She shouldn’t have eaten or drunk anything from sunrise to sunset. She was so ashamed of herself that she collected all of her gold jewellery. She brought it to a goldsmith. When he had melted all the gold she told him to make a ball with the gold. The ball was then put on top of the minaret.
