Popular Sports in Japan
There are about 6 major sumo competitions every year. If one of the sumo wrestlers pushes their opponent out of the ring or if their opponent falls they win the bout. The wrestlers wear loin cloths and belts. They are very fat and have long hair. They put oil in their hair. As well as Japanese competitors there are also foreign competitors.
Kyudo is Japanese archery. Sometimes the archers are standing while shooting their arrows. At other times they are on horseback.

Kendo is a very interesting sport. The competitors have to hit their opponents in the head, arms, torso or neck with a bamboo. The competitors have to wear protective clothing.
In judo you have to catch your opponent and throw them to the ground.
Aikido uses turning movements to redirect the momentum of an opponent's attach.
Other sports that are popular in Japan are soccer and baseball. A lot of the good baseball players have moved to America to play on American teams.
Soccer is also popular in Japan. A lot of the good soccer players play on European teams. The World Cup took place in Japan and Korea in 2002. It was the first time that it was run in Asia.
