Eating Out
There are lots of places to eat out in Japan. Very often restaurants have picture menus or models of the food so that you can show the staff what you would like to eat. In some restaurants you have to cook your own food! The table in the okonomiyaki is a hotplate like this. You mix the ingredients together and put them on the hotplate to cook.

Mount Aso is a volcanic crater. There is a sulphur lake in the crater. It smells like rotten eggs. If it is too windy it can be too dangerous to go up to the crater.

Hiroshima & Nagasaki
During the Second World War atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Both of these parks were built after the war to remind people of the horrors of war, in particular nuclear war.

Lots of people got sick after the bombing. One girl believed that if she could make 1000 origami cranes she would get better. Lots of people started to help her but she died before all the cranes could be made. |

People kept making the cranes to show that they wanted world peace. A lot of people died from cancer because of the radiation and lots of people are still suffering. You can see thousands of cranes in the Peace Park. |
