The Alpine ibex is a type of wild goat that lives in the Alps. They usually live above the snow line. They need to be very sure-footed as the ground is rough and very steep.

The chamois is a type of goat-antelope. It also lives in the mountains. The kids are usually born in May or June and live with the mother in small herds.

The Lynx is a very shy animal. Lynxes are very rare. They hunt by stalking their prey and jumping on them. Lynxes are carnivores. They love to eat deer. However, they will also eat smaller prey like hares, foxes and rabbits.

Marmots are large rodents that live in burrows in the Alps and the Massif Central. They like to eat grass, herbs, insects, spiders and worms. They hibernate in the winter.

Pine martens can be found all over France. They like to live in woodland, far from humans. They like to eat mice, birds, reptiles, voles and rabbits. They will even eat seeds, insects, worms, eggs and berries.

Polecats can be found all over France. They are nocturnal animals. They like to eat frogs, voles, eels, fish, rabbits, snakes, birds and insects.
Red Deer
Red deer can be found in the forests of France. They like to eat grass, heather, berries, lichens and mosses. They will also eat young trees and the bark of trees. In summer they feed mainly at dawn and dusk. In winter most of the day is spent searching for food.
Weasel
Weasels can be found all over France. They like to eat voles, shrews, rabbits and rats. When they cannot find these animals they will eat birds, eggs, frogs, fish and insects.
Wild Boar
Wild boar can be seen all over France. You should never approach a wild boar as they can be very dangerous. Wild boars are not fussy about what they eat. They will eat almost anything but will usually eat eggs, mice, lizards, worms and snakes. They will even eat animals killed by other animals.
Wolf
Wolves used to be extinct in France but they have made a comeback. They like to hunt deer, chamois and wild boar but will scavenge for food in rubbish or attack livestock if they are hungry.
