Dubai
The old city originally grew up around the Dubai creek. Most of the houses were built with palm fronds but there were also houses made from sea stones. There were oases quite close to the city with provided the inhabitants with fresh water. The city prospered and grew. Pearls, shells and dried fish were exported. While rice, sugar, spices, fabric and wood were imported. A fort was built to protect the city.
In the 1960ties there was an economic boom in Dubai. Road and airports were built. Electricity, water and telecommunications were developed. The modern city began to take shape.
