Modern apartments have all the usual amenities. However, due to lack of space they tend to be quite small.
The kitchen is so small that the fridge is in the living room!
This apartment has a living area in which you dine and relax.
This is the bedroom of a modern apartment. The bedroom is almost part of the living room as there is only a glass partition between the bedroom and the living room. There are built in wardrobes in the bedroom to save on space.
This is a bathroom. Showers are more common than baths as they take up less room.
Others live in much older apartments. As the population of China is well over a billion many people live very close to each other, particularly in the cities. As a result living in apartments is very common. Sometimes those living in older accommodation have to share a bathroom and kitchen with their neighbours. |
Some houses are built along canals like these ones. People often travel by boat. Goods are also moved by boat as it is very convenient.
Some people even live on the boats on which they work.
Many people who live in the country are farmers. They often use traditional farming methods. They grow food crops such as rice, wheat, sugar cane potatoes and peanuts. Cotton is also grown. Many grow fruit and vegetables. They use water buffaloes to plough their fields.
Feng Shui is the tradition of arranging ones surroundings in such a way that there is harmony between them and nature. It is closely related to Taoism. People who practice Feng Shui place things carefully. They want to make sure that there is a positive flow of energy through their homes and where they work.
