There are many holidays and festivals celebrated in Bahrain. Some of them are religious holidays.

Folk Music & Dance
Folk dances are performed by two rows of men opposite each other. Sometimes they dance with swords. The women sang about the work that they did at home. These songs and dances are often performed at festivals or for special occasions now. This is a picture of the men doing the Ardha, the sword dance.

Here are photos of some musicians playing music. The men in the photograph below are playing drums and goatskin bagpipes called qirbah. The mouthpiece and pipe are made from bamboo.

Girga'oon
There are some traditions that Bahraini children enjoy. Girga'oon is a celebration which happens half way through Ramadan. Children get dressed in brightly coloured clothes. They go from house to house singing a song that is intended to call on Allah to bless the youngest child in the family. They are given nuts and sweets.
