The Chinese New Year usually begins in February. There are lots of celebrations. There are often fireworks, a lion dance and a dragon dance.

There is also a parade where people carry lanterns under the light of the full moon.
National Sorry Day
National Sorry Day is held on the 26th of May. It is to commemorate the the Stolen Generation. The Stolen Generation were children which were forcibly taken from their families because of a government policy that wanted to turn them into white Australians.

Eureka Stockade
This rebellion happened because the workers on the gold fields were fed up paying licenses to the government. Those that found gold were able to pay the license fees but those that did not could not afford to pay for it. They thought that it was unfair that they would have to pay the license even though they hadn't found any gold.

Christmas in Australia
Australia is in the southern hemisphere so the seasons are the other way around. This means that when it is Christmas time in Australia it is summer not winter! The weather is hot so some people celebrate by going to the beach for the day and having a barbecue. Sometimes in July people will have a Christmas dinner with turkey and all the trimmings.
