The United states of America is often called the United States, the US or America. There are 50 states altogether 48 of which are situated between Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. The other two states are Alaska and Hawaiʻi. Alaska is in the northwestern part of North America and Hawaiʻi is an archipelago (a group of islands) in the Pacific. The capital city is Washington, D.C. but the most populated city is New York city.

- Alaska was bought from Russia in 1867. It is the largest state in the United States and only 4 km from Russia at its nearest point.

Hawai'i is the only state in the United States to have two official languages: English and Hawaiian.
