American Environment
The climate is very diverse because the United States is very big. There are lots of interesting things to see there.
Hawaiʻi
The Hawaiian islands are volcanic. They have some of the most active volcanoes in the world. You can actually visit the volcanoes to see them in action.
There are other volcanoes in the Unites States such as Mount St Helens and Mount Rainier in Washington state, Redoubt Volcano in Alaska, Mauna and Kilauea in Hawaiʻi, Lassen and Mount Shasta in California and South Sister and Mount Hood in Oregon.

The deadliest volcanic eruption in the United States occurred at Mount Saint Helens on the 18th of May, 1980. 57 people died and 250 homes were destroyed. After the eruption the first creatures to return to the mountain were the beetles and spiders. Scientist restocked the rivers with salmon by transporting them in big tanks. Below is a video of the 2004-2008 eruption.

Wildfires
A wildfire is an uncontrolled fire that happens when dry vegetation catches fire. In the United States these often occur in forests. The fires are often huge and spread very quickly. They can change direction very quickly and can jump roads, rivers and fire breaks if the wind behind them is strong enough.

Floods
Floods are caused by lakes or river banks overflowing. This can be caused by very heavy rainfall. Buildings can be badly damaged. Animals and people can end up being stranded and have to be rescued. Some floods can develop slowly and people have time to take precautions. Other floods, however, can develop very quickly. These are called flash floods.
